First Nation Learners
At Munno Para Primary School we endeavour to instill a sense of pride and belonging in our First Nations students. They are able to see themselves within an integrated curriculum, in artworks around the school and programs run to encourage a sense of identity. First Nations students are supported to reach their full potential academically, socially and emotionally.
Malpa
Malpa’s Young Doctors for Life is a unique, culturally derived, grass roots approach to train Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal children to become Young Doctors. This empowers the students to take control of their health destiny and help shape the future in their family and community. The students attend a 90 minute session once a week for 15 weeks where they learn about health literacy. This may look like cooking healthy meals, investigating Traditional vs Western medicine, looking after their teeth, hygiene, and basic life skills. Students will graduate with a wider range of knowledge about their own and others’ health.
Yaitya Tirkanthi
Yaitya Tirkanthi is a school based program run to broaden student’s knowledge of their cultural identity. They will participate in lessons about art, music, dance, traditional Aboriginal practices, caring for Country, and personal identity. These lessons are fun, practical, hands-on, and inclusive. First Nations students will develop their personal growth while fostering a strong sense of cultural pride and connection.
