Specialist Curriculum Areas

MPPS offers wide range of specialist subjects including Science, Physical Education & Health, Auslan, Technologies and The Arts.

Science provides opportunities for students to develop an understanding of important science concepts and processes, the practices used to develop scientific knowledge, of science’s contribution to our culture and society, and its applications in our lives. The curriculum supports students to develop the scientific knowledge, understandings and skills to make informed decisions about local, national and global issues and to participate, if they so wish, in science-related careers.

Health and PE helps students develop the skills, knowledge, and understanding to strengthen their sense of self, and build and manage satisfying, respectful relationships. They learn to build on personal and community strengths and assets to enhance safety and wellbeing. At Munno Para Primary School, the Move Learn Grow program is an integral part of our junior primary PE lessons, supporting motor and cognitive development through engaging activities. Sessions include fine motor tasks, exploratory play, and skill-based stations that enhance coordination, social skills, memory, literacy, and numeracy. By integrating brain function, refining motor planning, and promoting sensory development, Move Learn Grow helps children build a strong foundation for learning

Auslan aims to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to enable students to communicate in Auslan and understand language and culture. This helps them develop an intercultural capability in communication, understand themselves as communicators and develop a knowledge and an understanding of the diversity of Deaf experience.

Technologies is comprised of Design and Technologies and Digital Technologies. The curriculum provides students with opportunities to consider how solutions that are created now will be used in the future. Students will identify the possible benefits and risks of creating solutions. They will use critical and creative thinking to weigh up possible short- and long-term impacts.

The Arts covers each of the five arts subjects – Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music, and Visual Arts. It is a learning area that draws together related but distinct art forms. While these art forms have close relationships and are often used in interrelated ways, each involves different approaches to arts practices and critical and creative thinking that reflect distinct bodies of knowledge, understanding and skills. The curriculum examines past, current and emerging arts practices in each art form across a range of cultures and places.
